Get to know the men behind Boxstar

So, this week we’re doing something a little bit different. We’re turning the lens on Boxstar’s two owners, Jason Yule and Jason Tithof (yes, they’re both Jason and yes it gets confusing sometimes!). But we’ve got pictures to help mitigate any confusion.

Boxstar owners - Jason & Jason

Get to know the Jasons, including how they met (duh, CrossFit), why they are so passionate about Boxstar (shared mentality about training) and what they love about owning their own business (seeing it grow and creating a community of like-minded passionate individuals).

Jason Yule

Where are you from and where do you live now? - Kenosha, WI (the only time I left was the 5 years I spent at school at UW Madison, home of the 2017 CrossFit Games).

How do you know each other? - CrossFit (I actually went to high school with Jason's younger brother, however we never meet until CrossFit).

How did you find Crossfit and how long have you been doing it? – I found Crossfit because I was bored of everything else. I’d been an endurance runner for two years, and contemplated training for a triathlon, however I tried Crossfit first in 2013 and never looked back.

When and why did you create Boxstar? – We created Boxstar in 2014 because we wanted to represent the mentality we had about training. We trained because we loved it and never complained about anything. We just wanted to get better every day.

What do you love about CrossFit? - I love how it pushes you to be better in all aspects of your life. When I started it was just about exercising, but soon it was being a better friend, brother, son, person, businessman, etc. I also love watching other people experience their personal evolutions thorough CrossFit.

What’s your favorite thing about being a business owner? - That we get to create. It's very cool and incredibly rewarding to be able to put our thoughts and efforts into a product and then getting to watch people excitedly buy it. It's easy to see we’re making a difference and that’s my personal mission.

Are you a coach? And what level? - Yes, CF-L2, and I own two affiliates, Harbor Park CrossFit and Harbor Park CrossFit Racine. I started coaching in 2014 and opened my first affiliate in late 2015 and the second in early 2017.

Are you married? Kids? Do you have any hobbies? – Unfortunately, not at this time, although I'm at Jason's house twice per week so his kids actually include me in the family, lol. Right now my affiliates and Boxstar are my only hobbies, but I’m working on getting a life!

What do you love about the Boxstar nation? - I absolutely love that we get to find others that share our mentality and we get to share our journey with them every step of the way. I've been fortunate enough to meet hundreds of our fans and followers on the road at competitions and it's incredible watching their journeys and watching their stories unfold!

Anything else you want to add? – I’m incredibly excited for the rest of 2017, the Games, and to watch Boxstar Apparel grow into one of the household names in the functional fitness space. And we know it’ll happen because we aren't going to rest until it does.

Jason Tithof

Where are you from and where do you live now? - Born and raised in Kenosha, WI, and I now live in Pleasant Prairie, WI with my wife and 3 children.

How do you know each other? - We met about 4 years ago at a local CrossFit.

How did you find CrossFit and how long have you been doing it? - I found CrossFit about 4 years ago. I’d been a competitive athlete my entire life, all they way though college where I played soccer at Northern Illinois University. After college the usual weeknight rec leagues fueled my need for competition, but that quickly passed. One day a friend suggested we try this CrossFit thing. We went, got an intro, did a 6-minute bodyweight AMRAP and I was instantly hooked.

Why did you create Boxstar? - While I wasn't part of the initial creation, I shared in the mindset from the very beginning - just a couple of guys wanting to create kick-ass clothing that represented our training mentality: to be #greaterthanyesterday. When I saw the business opportunity I didn't have a choice but to harness my inner entrepreneurial skills and the rest is history.

What do you love about CrossFit? - Two things above all else: the focus on community and the competitiveness. Young or old, fitness expert or novice, male or female, the sense of community and everyone busting their tails together to better themselves and their fitness is truly inspiring.

What’s your favorite thing about being a business owner? - Owning the process from start to finish and constantly evaluating what's working and what needs improvement.

Are you married? Kids? What are your hobbies? - I've been married to my best friend (and very supportive) wife for 10 years. We have three wonderful kids under the age of six. Besides CrossFit, I'm an adventure junky and love to snowmobile, waterski and snowboard. There are many late nights and early mornings and life is quite hectic, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

What do you love about the Boxstar nation? - I love the passion of Boxstar Nation. We've been fortunate enough to get to meet a lot of our customers and it never gets old hearing compliments from them. At the end of the day we won't succeed unless the Boxstar Nation is happy. Our focus is, and will always be, them.

Anything else you want to add? – We’ve put a tremendous amount of time and effort into building this business and we're just getting started. 2017 is going to be a big year for us and we're looking to spread the word globally at this year's CrossFit Games — which are being held right in our backyard! I want to personally thank the Boxstar Nation for their continued support.
